December 2015: Checklist for Success

Registration Round-Up!

We know girls love participating in Girl Scouts year after year, and we love to see our members returning! Through November and December, we are reaching out to all girls and adults who have not yet renewed their Girl Scout membership for the 2015-16 year.

We have heard from some families that they have turned in registration forms to leaders already, so please make sure to turn in any registration forms as soon as possible. If families in your troop have not yet re-registered, they can renew by credit or debit card online.

Here are some great reasons to get your registrations in:

  • Be safe! Girls aren’t protected by our insurance at meetings, programs and outings until their membership is current.
  • Gear up for Cookies! Remember, girls have to have current memberships on file to participate in the Cookie Program. Waiting until the last minute to turn in registrations before the program could lead to processing delays and make it difficult for girls to participate.

Have any questions about registrations or our calling effort? Email us at!

Opportunity Catalog

Our goal is to find a spot for every girl who wants to be a part of Girl Scouts! You can help families understand their options for participation by updating your troop information in the Opportunity Catalog.

What information can you change using the Troop Catalog Update Form?

  • Troop meeting details.
  • Maximum number of girl spots.
  • A description with fun facts about your troop.

How to View Your Troop Roster

We’ve heard from some volunteers that it’s a little confusing to find Troop Rosters in our new system. We’re here to help! Check out this step-by-step guide:

  1. Click on MyGS on the website homepage, and select Volunteer Toolkit. If you haven’t logged into MyGS yet, use the “Forgot Your Password?” link to reset your information.
  2. Once in the Volunteer Toolkit, select the “My Troop” tab (on the left, next to “Year Plan”).
  3. From there, you’ll see a green bar with “Troop ___ Info.” On this bar, you’ll see an option to email all contacts within the troop. This is a great option for troop announcements!
  4. For more specific information about each troop member, click on the white arrow next to “Troop ___ Info.” Once this arrow is pointing down, you’ll see the list of all girls in the troop. You’ll see each girl’s name, their parent/guardian’s name, email address, and phone number. If you click on the green arrow next to each girl’s name, you’ll find her date of birth, age, and address.

December To-Dos

The Top 4 Reasons to Love New Online Training!

We are so excited to offer new online training opportunities for volunteers! Here’s why you should be excited too:

  1. Do it on your time! Whether you have free time at night or early in the morning, these new trainings will be accessible 24/7.
  2. Train in easily-digestible pieces! You don’t have to do any of the trainings in one sitting. Have 20 minutes free each evening? No problem! You can stop and start your course wherever you would like.
  3. Review information whenever you want! After you finish the course, you can return to review information weeks or months later for a quick refresher.
  4. Train from home. Now there’s no need to go out after relaxing at home. You can’t beat training while rocking some cozy pajamas!

Excited and ready to get started?

The first course, Managing Troops and Groups, is live on our learning portal (which you can access from our website). The first time you visit the learning portal, you will need to take a minute to create a new account for yourself on this site

Psst…to make things easier to remember, use the same email and password you use for the MyGS Member Community.

Once you create your account, you’ll immediately receive an email with a link to confirm your account. Simply click that link, and you’re all set!

We’ll continue updating our learning portal with new trainings as they are developed — be sure to check back on The Bridge for new course announcements. We look forward to creating a set of convenient resources to help you make the most out of your volunteer experience!
